Mersey Gateway Project issues latest update
Tue, 13 May 2008
The Mersey Gateway Project has this week (week commencing 12 May) issued its latest update to residents and businesses across Halton.
Over 55,000 leaflets are being sent to every household and business in the borough giving details of Mersey Gateway planning process.
The first phase of applications for the Mersey Gateway Project were submitted to Halton Borough Council in March and a series of applications to central government for legal orders will be made during May.
As part of the planning process a number of exhibitions are being held where individuals can find out more about the planning applications and legal orders and have any questions they might have answered.

Tony McDermott, Leader of Halton Borough Council and Chair of the Mersey Gateway Executive Board said:
“These leaflets and exhibitions will give people a chance to look in detail at what the proposals for project are, but this is about much more than building a new bridge.”
“The Mersey Gateway will transform the road network across the region and ensure that our road system here in Halton is capable of dealing with the challenges of increased traffic flow in the future.”
“We hope that people will come along to the exhibitions and find out about how the Mersey Gateway will provide benefits to the people of Halton and beyond.”
Steve Nicholson, Mersey Gateway Project Director said:
“The size and nature of the Mersey Gateway Project means that the planning application process is particularly large and complicated. We are issuing this information in order to be as open as possible so that everyone interested in the project can see how the process works and give their opinions.”
