Design and development of a Multimedia marketing tool

Background

The Rochdale Borough Renaissance Masterplan outlines a 15-year vision for the physical development of Rochdale. It sets out the key directions and priorities that are essential if there is to be a dramatic change in the borough’s economy, physical environment, residents’ quality of life and the area’s image and reputation.

Brief

DTW was asked to plan and design a highly interactive multi-media CD-Rom presenting the vision and strategic framework for the Renaissance Masterplan and how the borough and its partners intend to implement it. Essentially, the CD had to enhance the image and reputation of the borough and make best use of modern techniques to promote the Masterplan to local, regional and national stakeholders and decision makers, stimulating their confidence and encouraging investment in the borough.

Approach

DTW worked closely with key personnel from the council to identify the key messages in the Masterplan.

Following preparation of a project storyboard identifying the movie footage, text and graphical content required, DTW organised aerial photography and video shoots across the borough and its key development sites. DTW managed the

filming and editing process from start to finish. Our highly-skilled in-house Digital Media team collated the media into a bespoke application.

For the local launch, DTW created a customized 4-minute showreel giving an overview of each of the seven key themes of the Masterplan and the main proposals within each themed area. In addition, individual proposals were highlighted on plasma screens deployed in the main foyer at the event venue.

Both types of display were accompanied by a voice over and music. Those attending the launch received a delegate pack containing a copy of the CD-Rom and accompanying brochure.

Outcomes

The high profile launch, held at Urbis in Manchester, successfully attracted and impressed a wide range of private and public sector delegates and potential investors.

Since the launch, demand for the CD-Rom has been so high that more copies have had to be produced.

Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council has given DTW very positive feedback on the whole project and the agency has been placed on the council’s design and new media roster for future work.
